Top 10 Largest Companies On Bursa Malaysia – Part 1
Bursa Malaysia is one of the most active stock exchange in Southeast Asia. It is also the second largest stock exchange, behind only the Singapore Exchange. Yet, not much is known about the top 10 largest companies on the exchange. Today, we will take a look at the first 5.
10. Petronas Chemicals Group Berhad (PCHEM:MK)
Petronas Chemical is currently the 10th largest company by market capitalisation on Bursa. It has a market capitalisation of RM44 billion and is a subsidiary of the national oil and gas company, Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS). It has a revenue of RM15 billion in FY2013 and a net profit of more than RM3 billion. It focused on the refinery segment of the oil and gas sector, refining many chemicals and downstream products.
9. Petronas Gas Bhd (PTG:MK)
Petronas Gas is a gas infrastructure and utilities provider in Malaysia. The company separates, store, distribute and transport natural gas throughout the country. The company currently has a market capitalisation of RM44 billion and produced a revenue of RM3.9 billion in FY2013. It enjoys a strong margin due to its near monopolistic moat in this industry. It recorded a net income of RM2.08 billion in FY 2013.
8. CIMB Group Holdings Bhd (CIMB:MK)
CIMB Group is one of the largest financial institution in Malaysia. It has a market capitalisation of RM47 billion. The company has experienced a strong growth over the past decade as it expand overseas through mergers and acquisition. The company is in the process of a merger with RHB Capital, another major financial firm in the country. Once the merger is complete, CIMB Group might become the largest bank in Malaysia in term of asset size.
7. DiGi.Com Bhd (DIGI:MK)
DiGi.Com Bhd is the third largest telecommunication company in Malaysia. Over the past decade, the company has grew significantly. Its market capitalisation now stood at RM48.5 billion. It produced a net income of RM1.7 billion from a revenue of RM6.7 billionin FY2013.
6. Maxis Bhd (MAXIS:MK)
Maxis is the second largest telecommunication company in Malaysia. The company has a market capitalisation of RM51 billion. It has a revenue of about RM9 billion in FY2013 and produced a net income of RM1.77 billion in FY2013. The company has a strong market share in the mobile segment in Malaysia.
